Protecting rights amid North Carolina’s ‘No Texting’ effort

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has designated June as “No Texting, Just Driving” awareness month. While many drivers will appreciate the law cracking down on texting while driving, you may be like many others who are also concerned with protecting your rights as law enforcement focuses on behaviors that may be difficult to prove or disprove.

Officials say the No Texting, Just Driving campaign is designed to educate and promote awareness about how dangerous texting while driving can be. They note that according to one recent report, 196 billion text messages were sent or received in 2011, up 50 percent from 2009. Those numbers are not exclusive to drivers, however.
